Managing Diabetes with the Latest Technology

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Managing diabetes used to require needle sticks to obtain blood sugar levels, but there are now devices that can make managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes more convenient.

New technology to manage diabetes, such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), not only helps people with diabetes avoid finger pricks, having the information about blood sugar levels available continuously also enables better choices about food, exercise and insulin dosage.

The London Endocrine & Diabetes Center

The London Endocrine & Diabetes Center has convenient prompt appointments, excellent customer service and the latest technology to help you manage your diabetes easily and conveniently.

How Does Continuous Glocuse Monitoring (CGM) Work?

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is a wearable device that allows you to monitor and track blood sugar levels. There are many devices on the market, but they all operate in a similar manner.

The most common models operate by placing a senior under the skin, usually in either your arm or belly. They are inserted with a special applicator and held down with adhesive tape.

There are some models that can be surgically inserted and only need to be replaced a few times a year. Once it’s inserted, the sensor functions by measuring the sugar levels every few minutes and transmits this information to a device for viewing.

Some of the latest models can send the information to an app on your phone, tablet or personal computer via wifi or Bluetooth. One of the great advantages of CGM over traditional blood sugar testing is the ability to store and compare 24/7 data taken over days, weeks and months.

Insulin Pumps and latest CGM technology

The latest advance in insulin pumps is the ability to provide just the right amount of insulin based on the readings obtained by the CGM device.

Some of the manufacturers are describing this closed loop system as “Artificial Pancreas” technology because it not only takes over readings, but also provides insulin, just like a real pancreas.

Having access to the latest technology to control diabetes can have a tremendous impact on both longevity and quality of life for people living with diabetes.

The London Endocrine & Diabetes Center is a state of the art facility that provides you with the most up to date and convenient CGM system as soon as it’s available.
